Some people are proud of the rich past, but unfortunately you cannot see only ruins or anything that represents a glorious past. Some places have been made to show different faces together, which will provide an interesting journey. Some preserve the essence of the past by mixing it with the present, thus giving depth to past lives and engaging in the present. Anantapur, the largest district of the state of Andhra Pradesh, has important historical monuments. It played an important role today as it was popular in the silk trade and contributed to economic development.
1. Ahobilam Temple
It is known as Penna Ahoppilam in the temple of Lord Narasimha Swamy. The temple is dedicated to Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy. The temple complex houses the Adi Lakshmi Devi Temple and the Senchu Lakshmi Devi Temple.
2. ISKCON Temple, Anantapur
Like all the other ISKCON temples built across the world, Anantapur has a beautiful temple. The temple is in the shape of a horse drawn chariot and in front of the temple there is an idol of four big horses.
3. Bugga Ramalingeswara Swami Temple
Another famous temple in the area is the Buka Ramalingeshwara Swamy Temple. This temple is also known as Ramalingeshwara Swamy Temple and is dedicated to Lord Shiva.
4. Penukonda Fort
Benugonda Fort is one of the major attractions of Anantapur. Located at a distance of about 70 km from Anantapur, the name of the fort is derived from the word Benukonda, which means big hill.
5. Thimmamma Marrimanu
Thimmamma Marimanu is a large palm tree situated at a distance of 70 km from Kudirai Hill. This historical tree is located in Anantapur district. The name of this tree has been preserved by the local people since ancient times.
6. Gooty Fort
Rawaturk Kooti Fort is one of the oldest hill forts in Andhra Pradesh. The structure of the palace represents a shell. The fort is full of carved walls, pillars and gates.
7. Hanuman Statue at Mounagiri
Apart from the tourist attractions offered by Anantapur, there is also a statue of Hanuman. Built at a height of a few feet, this statue is spectacular and can be seen from a distance of several kilometres. There is a temple there for those who wish to pray.
8. Rayadurg
Built at an altitude of 2,727 feet above sea level, Rayadurg is a city with monuments that obscure its rich cultural heritage. Located in western Andhra Pradesh on the border of Karnataka, this small town attracts tourists from across the country with its majestic but ruined forts and temples and many centers of extraordinary artistry.
9. Veera Bhadra Temple
The Virbhadra Temple is located in Lepchi village, 15 km east of Hindupur in Anantapur district. Dedicated to the devotees of Veerabhadra, this temple was constructed in the 16th century.
10. Anantapur Clock Tower
Anantapur Clock Tower is the main landmark of Anantapur city. It was built during the period of independence in India and still stands tall. The clock tower is in the middle of the road.
